2008 has seen some outstanding performances from the regular Feelgood Factors training group.

In January Christian Vaughan returned to New Zealand for the Ironman Triathlon and knocked 40min off his time from the previous year - he'll be under the 12 hour barrier next year.

John Pocock also competed this year in the NZ Ironman, reducing his time by a massive 56min and going on to compete for GB in the World Long Course Champs in Almera.  In between he rode the challenging Marmotte cyclo-sportive which includes the Cols du Glandon, Telegraph, Galibier and finally l'Alpe d'Huez itself, knocking an astonishing 3hours off his time from the previous year.

In May Dan White won the European M45 Duathlon in Athens, and then despite numerous distractions throughout the summer including the birth of a son, went on to finish 9th in the world championships in Rimini.  Despite reservations about his swimming ability, he is now aiming for the 2009 world triathlon championships in Australia………watch this space!!

In July Cecilia Morrison followed up her two silver medals in the W65 5000m and 10000m in last year's World Masters Athletics Championships with a silver (at 1500m) and a gold (at 5000m) in this year's European Championships.  In so doing she defeated the lady who had beaten her in the Worlds the previous year.

Fiona Love represented GB in the World Triathlon Championships in Vancouver in June, finishing 29th in her age group over the Olympic distance (5th GB).  At the same event Gabi Schaetzlein came 4th in her age group over the sprint distance, thereby automatically qualifying for next year's event in Australia.  Fiona also successfully completed her first half ironman triathlon at New Forest in September, and is now focusing on the full Ironman event in Austria next year.

After a slow start to his season, and following 2 weeks secret training in Lanzarote, Claudio Segovia successfully completed his first Ironman event at Sherborne, and is now also looking towards Austria Ironman next year - as are Christian and John too.

Other highlights of the season include:

Angie Epps, who regularly wins her age group at cross-country and road races, and is poised to make her mark at duathlon in 2009.

Alisdair Oakley, who has won his age group in several sprint and Olympic distance triathlons this year, and managed a top 10 finish in the demanding Helvellyn Triathlon in September.

Jon Marsh, who overcame a couple of injury and illness setbacks and bounced back to a very encouraging result in the Bala olympic -distance triathlon in September.

Craig Bridges has set a series of personal best times on the track throughout the summer, reducing his 1500m time by 20 sec and his 800m time by 8 sec.

Mhairi Crawford, who only started running with Julian in May, but last week reduced her time by over 15 minutes in the Dublin Marathon

And not forgetting Julian himself, who has been out of running events this year after rupturing a cruciate ligament last December, but has competed in several cycling sportives and road races this summer, and in October came 3rd in his age group at the National Vets Cycling Time Trial Championships.

Plans for 2009

As they say, medals are won in the winter but collected in the summer.  Our winter training programme starts on 30 Oct with a week's warm-weather training at Club la Santa in Lanzarote.  Further trips are planned in January (already full), and April 16-23 (places still available).
